Last year was a difficult year for the ethanol fuel industry (supplying fuel for fireplaces, firepots and decorative ethanol burning devices). There were several injuries that occurred, almost all through misuse of the fuel and disregard for warnings and labels.

These tragic injuries resulted in an industry wide recall of Ethanol Gel Fuel. In the end, the Consumer Product Safety Council determined that bottles with open "throats" allow for a flame or ignition source to follow flammable fumes back into the bottle causing a flash explosion that can cause serious property damage and severe personal injury. While ethanol gel bottles were immediately pulled from the market, liquid ethanol bottles were not and are still in circulation; these same hazards continue to exist as did for the Ethanol Gel Bottles. This remains a serious problem.
