Have you considered heating with wood? In many parts of North America, firewood is cheap and plentiful, so wood heat could potentially save you money. Not only does a woodstove give you a reliable source of heat even when the power goes out, it’s also a green option, because wood is a renewable resource when harvested sustainably.

As winter’s chill advanced on the Pikes Peak region Tuesday, David Parker of Colorado Timber Products delivered a cord of wood at 720 Bonfoy St.

Winter's coming and it's getting cold. Time to dust off the ol' heating unit and get your home all nice and toasty. But before you strike a match or turn a dial, make sure you're doing so safely.

If you haven’t already jumped on the home energy-efficiency bandwagon, the good news is that several federal energy tax credits originally slated to end in 2010 were extended through December 31, 2011; but the not-so-good news is that these credits are worth significantly less and are more restrictive than before. All is not lost, however, since several additional credits (outlined below) remain in effect through 2016.

A wood burning stove can be added to just about any room of the home. You can place one in your family room which will allow you to have a nice toasty family room on cold winter mornings. You can install one in your den and not worry about turning down the thermostat at night to save on energy costs while you remain warm. You can find a variety of different styles and models, including cast iron wood stoves from New Energy Distributing.

The one area of the home where people often gather is the family room. When you have holiday get-togethers with friends and family, most people will migrate slowly to the family room. You can also add rustic charm to your kitchen when you install a wood burning stove in your kitchen. Your guests will enjoy the warmth the stove generates as well as the beauty it will bring to your kitchen or family room.

There are a variety of different designs and styles of gas grills available to fit anyone's budget. You can find small grills which offer the ability to grill all the food you desire and do not take up much space when you have a small patio area. There are larger grills available which feature side burners to cook other foods at the same time while grilling. New Energy Distributingcarries a selection of grills for you to choose from, including built-in models.

You can convert your old wood burning fireplace to gas by selecting from gas fireplace inserts which will fit into the current opening. You can choose to keep your existing chimney and run a chimney pipe to vent the gas fireplace, or you can close off the chimney and use a direct vent gas insert. You can find a variety of different models, as well as accessories and other hearth products when you shop New Energy Distributing.

Adding a fireplace to your home allows you to add an alternative heating method which can be enjoyed by the entire family. Gas fireplaces are available which require only a direct vent to the outside and do not require that you install a chimney. These direct vent gas fireplace units are easy to install because you need a single vent to the outside.
